What is Little House at the Landing?

Well it’s actually a real place! But before we get to that, let me tell you how we got here. We’ve been married for almost 30 years and trudged our children around to various places as an Army family. We’ve lived in a variety of housing, ranging from Army quarters to apartments, and to a house we were fortunate enough to call home for about 15 years. Most of that time, we learned to live dirt cheap and make do, while always being thankful for what we had. As an Army wife, I figured out that I didn’t want to wait on the Army to tell me when my husband was going to be around to get stuff done – so I learned to do it myself. Long before the internet (CompuServe or Prodigy anyone?), library books were my biggest resource for figuring stuff out. If it was broke, I figured out how to fix it. If it didn’t quite fit or didn’t quite work, I tweaked it until it did. And if there was something we couldn’t really afford, I figured out how to make it myself. Home Depot was my home away from home and spray paint was my best friend.

So now we’ve made a big move out to the country, and finally got to start from scratch on a new build – the first time either of us ever lived in a new house. We affectionately named it The Landing because it’s where we’ve landed. We LOVE our house and our builder did a fabulous job – but it still needs some character, some customizing, and some elbow grease. We’re looking forward to putting all the skills, tips and tricks we’ve learned from a lifetime of DIY to good use on our new space, and to learning new things along the way. And we’re looking forward to sharing some of that with you, and hearing your feedback!

Along the way you’ll probably hear about all the other stuff we’re into – our family, Disney stuff, Scottish stuff, church stuff, Star Trek stuff.

So welcome to our little corner of the internet – to our Little House at the Landing.
